6–9 March 2026, Giopato & Coombes will take part in Matter and Shape 2026 at Paris, Jardin des Tuileries, presenting Scarabei: luminous sculptures that turn the theme “Scale” into a bodily, perceptual experience. More than measurement, scale becomes a relationship between near and far, intimacy and the visual field.
Cast in aluminum using earth molds, each element bears a one-of-a-kind surface marked by the soil’s porosity. Concave domes of varying sizes gather into an evolving constellation that can expand or contract; from afar it maps volumes, up close it reveals a tactile skin. Light slides across curves, casting shadows and reflections that redraw the space and show how matter can grow and transform space.
